Praxis® Practice Tests

Required by many states for admission to teacher preparation programs. Foundational skills in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics on a 100–200 scale.

Replaces the older 5001/7001 series (retiring August 2028). Greater depth, 10–15% teaching scenario questions, Praxis Steps modular testing (launching Summer 2026). Verify your state requirement before registering at praxis.ets.org/state-requirements.

The older 5001 and 7001 Multiple Subjects series plus CIA, Content Knowledge, Assessment, and Three Subject Bundle tests. All active but retiring August 2028. The new 8002–8006 Fundamentals series is the replacement.

~80% of questions test applying content knowledge to teaching tasks. The 7812 may include audio questions — the only Praxis subtest with audio. Developed with TeachingWorks at the University of Michigan.

Assessments for teachers of young children from birth through primary grades, including PreK, kindergarten, and early childhood specialists.

Pedagogy assessments covering how students learn, instructional strategies, classroom management, and assessment. Include case-study based constructed-response questions. Required alongside subject assessments by many states.

Subject-specific certification assessments for middle school teachers covering grades 5–9.

Content knowledge certifications for grades 7–12 teachers across ELA, mathematics, and science disciplines.

Content knowledge assessments for grades 7–12 social studies, history, government, economics, and geography teachers.

Specialist and certification assessments for reading specialists, literacy coaches, and English as a Second Language (ESOL) teachers.

Certification assessments for special education teachers across disability categories, early childhood special education, gifted education, and related service areas.

Assessments for speech-language pathologists and communication teachers. Communication and Literacy tests (5714, 5724) are Massachusetts-specific; Combined (5753) is a combined MA test.

World language certification assessments for PreK–12 foreign language teachers. ACTFL standards aligned. Include both content knowledge and productive language use components.

Arts education certification assessments for visual arts, music (four specializations), theater, and performing arts teachers at the PreK–12 level.

Scores are on a 100–200 scaled range. Passing scores are set individually by each state — not ETS — and vary across states and exam types. There is no penalty for wrong answers on any Praxis test. ETS's Free After Three program waives the fee after your third attempt on the same test. Score reports are valid for 10 years. Always verify your state's passing score at praxis.ets.org/scores.
