About the Praxis Agriculture Exam
The Praxis Agriculture (5701) is designed to measure the professional knowledge and competencies of prospective teachers of agriculture in junior and senior high schools. The 120 selected-response questions assess both basic knowledge and the ability to apply principles to real-life situations, making it critical to understand content at a practical level โ not just memorize definitions.
Test content is appropriate for candidates who have completed a bachelor's degree program in agricultural education. According to ETS, the content is based largely on the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) Career Cluster Content Standards published by the National Council for Agricultural Education.
The exam is delivered entirely by computer, at Prometric testing centers or via approved remote proctoring. Note that some questions on the test are unscored field-test items included to gather data for future test development โ these do not count toward your final score.

Passing Score Requirements by State
The Praxis Agriculture (5701) is required for agriculture teacher certification in numerous states. Scores are not one-size-fits-all.
Important: While most states that use this exam require a minimum scaled score around 147, exact requirements vary. For example, some states set their cut scores higher or lower. You must verify the exact passing score for your state before you register. The official source for state-by-state requirements is ets.org/praxis/states.

How to Prepare for the Praxis Agriculture Exam
Strategies drawn from ETS's own Study Companion guidance.
Rate your confidence in each of the 7 content categories on a 1โ5 scale. Allocate the most study time to categories where your confidence is lowest and the question weight is highest โ Animal Systems and Plant Systems together account for 32% of the exam.
The test is explicitly based on the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) Career Cluster Content Standards published by the National Council for Agricultural Education. Reviewing these standards helps you understand the scope of what's tested.
Leadership and Career Development (Category VII) is 15% of the exam and includes highly specific facts about the FFA โ founding year (1928), historical figures (Henry C. Groseclose, E. M. Tiffany), degrees, parliamentary procedure, and SAE programs. These are memorizable and scoring-critical.
Several categories require math: straight-line depreciation (Agribusiness), balanced rations using Pearson's square (Animal Systems), and Ohm's law calculations (Power Systems). Work through sample calculations with real numbers.
Multiple categories test knowledge of federal agencies and laws โ USDA, FDA, EPA, NRCS, BLM, OSHA, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. Know which agency governs what.
