About the GACE Spanish (P–12) (740)
Here’s what you need to know before you register.
The GACE Spanish (P–12) exam is for individuals seeking admission to an educator preparation program, initial certification in Georgia, or qualification to teach Spanish from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Georgia public schools. It is administered through Evaluation Systems of Pearson on behalf of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
The exam is made up of four testlets, which you can take together in one session or separately. Three testlets use selected-response (multiple-choice) questions: Testlet 335 (Interpretive Listening, 20 questions, 30 minutes), Testlet 336 (Interpretive Reading, 30 questions, 60 minutes), and Testlet 506 (Language Acquisition and Instruction, 25 questions, 45 minutes). The fourth, Testlet 337 (Presentational Speaking and Writing), requires you to complete 2 constructed-response tasks in Spanish — a spoken message and a written composition — in 45 minutes. The combined time for all four testlets is 3 hours, and there are 77 total questions and tasks.
Fees differ by testlet: Testlets 335, 336, and 506 each cost $40.00 individually. Testlet 337 costs $49.00 because it requires human scoring of your spoken and written responses. All four combined cost $169.00 (including a $25 registration fee and a $28 test center fee).
To pass, you need a scaled score of 220 on a scale of 100–300. There is no penalty for wrong answers on the selected-response testlets. To register, create a GaPSC MyPSC account at mypsc.gapsc.org, then create an Evaluation Systems GACE testing account at gace.es.pearson.com.

How to Prepare for the GACE Spanish (P–12) (740)
Here are some tips to help you get ready for each testlet.
- Testlet 337 (Presentational Speaking and Writing) requires a different kind of preparation than the other three testlets. You can’t prepare for it by reading alone — you need to actively practice speaking and writing in Spanish under time pressure. Record yourself responding to prompts and review your grammar, fluency, and organization. Practice both tasks within the 45-minute window so you build a realistic sense of pacing.
- For Testlet 335 (Interpretive Listening), build your listening stamina with authentic audio. Practice with podcasts, news broadcasts, and conversations from a range of Spanish-speaking countries so you become comfortable with regional accents and colloquial speech, not just textbook Spanish.
- For Testlet 336 (Interpretive Reading), practice with a range of authentic text types. Read literary excerpts, opinion pieces, and informational articles in Spanish. Focus on identifying tone, author perspective, and argument structure, not just vocabulary recognition.
- For Testlet 506 (Language Acquisition and Instruction), this is pedagogy content, not Spanish-language content. Study the major language acquisition theories and instructional strategies covered in the GACE 740 study guide. If you’ve already passed this testlet through another GACE world language exam, verify your credit before registering again.
